Using global GIS analysis we have identified 480,000 km2 of ideal hot desert sites suitable for our method of carbon removal. Site selection criteria include very low Net Primary Productivity (NPP) or natural carbon fixation, a flat and accessible topography unencumbered by agricultural or productive infrastructure, ease of renewable energy production, reduced seawater pumping cost by avoiding altitude, warm and sunny latitudes, ease of doing business and proximity to urban areas.
Together, this is enough to permanently remove over three gigatons of carbon dioxide per year, without competing with forests, farmland or protected ecosystems!
